It's a song about "the day the music died" first released just over 50 years ago and even the writer and performer never thought it would amount to much. I had the chance to interview Don McLean 50 years to the day the song was released and I asked him if he thought people would still be talking about the song or playing it on the radio this many years later. His answer an unequivical no! He thought after a year, that would be it...but the song made him enough money to buy a house and some horses, so he was as happy as a could be. And now, I asked him?? He said now he's got four homes on two coasts!
