When I was a kid, K-Mart was a staple...you really couldn't go far without seeing one! And do you remember the even bigger Super K-Mart?!?
Slowly but surely, store after store started closing and it became more common to see an abandoned K-Mart than an open one. According to Fortune, at it's peak, there were 2,400 K-Marts Nationwide with 35,000 employees and generated $37 billion in revenue.
Honestly, I really thought there we none left. Competition from Walmart, online shopping, and failure to modernize marked the end of the old BLUE LIGHT SPECIALS!
This passed weekend, the Avenel, NJ location closed for the last time, leaving just 3 left: Westwood, NJ, Long Island, and Miami. I kind of want to go just for fun, just like the people who travel to Bend, Oregon to visit the final Blockbuster Video!
