While there were some rumors of a mid-season return for Ryan Braun, that did not come to pass and he announced yesterday on Twitter that he is officially hanging up his cleats. He wrote, "today, more than 14 years after I first took the field as a Milwaukee Brewer, I’ve decided to retire. While it’s impossible to summarize my emotions, what I feel most is one, simple thing – gratitude. I just wanted to take a moment to say ‘thank you'".
While the last season of Braun's career was spent playing without fans, according to MLB.com, the Brewers will honor him before their game a week from Sunday.
