Michaela and I watched the new Coming 2 America a few weekends ago and it was fun! The original was one of my favorite movies and it was cool to revisit these characters from my childhood. While doing interviews and press for the movie that was released on Amazon Video rather than in theaters due to the Pandemic, Eddie had to expect questions about remaking another one of his iconic 80s movies, Beverly Hills Cop...and he's confirmed that it is, in fact, in the works.
By the way, this new Beverly Hill Cop will be the FOURTH installment in the series and like Coming 2 America, is rumored to be hitting a streaming service rather than going into theaters. The site Digital Spy and other media outlets asked Murphy about the current status of the movie and he confirmed "Right now, they are writing a script. They are getting a script together. We don't have a start date, but we have directors and we have producers – and we have writers working on it. Axel Foley is ready to go. All we need is a script."
Sounds promising!!
This story also gives me a reason to toss up the music video for Glenn Frey's The Heat Is On from the original soundtrack!
