ScienceDaily - A study out of San Diego State University and the University of Georgia says the "cure" for teens' unhappiness is less screen time. The research supports several other studies linking the increased use of laptops, cell phones, or other electronic devices to an uptick of depression symptoms and suicide-related behaviors among young people.
The paper uncovered a big drop in psychological well-being, self-esteem and life satisfaction starting in 2012, the year Americans with smartphones crossed the 50% mark. The study estimates that 73% of teens now own a smartphone.
Researchers say there may be extraneous factors going on with adolescents, but ultimately determined the key to digital media use and happiness is limited use of modern gadgets.
