Frito-Lay has voluntarily recalled select 8-ounce bags of Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips after discovering that some bags may contain jalapeño-flavored chips — which include milk as an ingredient — posing a potentially life-threatening risk to people with dairy allergies.

According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the recall was announced by Frito-Lay on Tuesday (March 3) and posted by the agency on Wednesday (March 4). The affected chips were distributed to grocery stores, convenience stores, drug stores, and online retailers in six states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Distribution may have started as early as Wednesday (January 15).

The FDA warns that consuming the affected product could put allergy sufferers at "risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction." The chips are considered safe for people without dairy allergies or milk sensitivities.

Frito-Lay said it learned of the mix-up after a consumer reached out to the company. No allergic reactions related to the recall have been reported as of Thursday (March 5).

As Frito-Lay explained in a statement, "A limited number of 8 oz. bags of Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips are being recalled as they could include jalapeño-flavored potato chips and therefore may contain an undeclared milk allergen. Unless a consumer has a dairy allergy or sensitivity to milk, this product is safe to consume."

Under U.S. law, milk is one of nine major food allergens that must be clearly disclosed on packaged food labels. The FDA recognizes these allergens because they account for the vast majority of serious and life-threatening allergic reactions in the country.

The recall applies only to Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill Pickle chips in 8-ounce bags with all of the following identifiers:

UPC: 0 28400 761772 (on the back of the bag)
"Guaranteed Fresh" date: April 21, 2026 (on the front of the bag)
Manufacturing code: 38U301414 or 48U101514 (on the front right side of the bag)

No other Miss Vickie's products, sizes, or flavors are part of the recall — including bags sold in variety packs.

Consumers who have the recalled product and a milk allergy or sensitivity should not eat it and should throw it away immediately. Those with questions can visit the Miss Vickie's "Contact Us" page or call 1-877-984-2543, Monday through Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Central Time.
