The days of paying cash on the Illinois Tollway are gone forever. No that doesn't mean you don't have to pay at all (I wish!) it just means that you can't pay with cash so you either need to get an I-Pass, E-Zpass or pay online. The tollway originally suspended cash payments because of the coronavirus outbreak and in 2019 more than 92% of toll payments were done though I-Pass and E-Zpass and that number has only grown through the pandemic. I feel like this makes complete sense because I don't know many people who were still stopping to pay with cash. If I ever forgot my I-Pass I'd just blow on through and pay online which you'll still be able to do. You can read more on this from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
