I'm so excited for Happy Hour with Hannah this week because you know I love my cabs! Otto's Wine and Spirits has provided us with the Hess Allomi 2015 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon which they are featuring in their Father's Day ad! Still looking for a gift for Dad? I think he might really like this bottle of wine! It's a blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon with a bit of Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot. The color is beautiful; deep garnet-purple! You'll get very earthy flavors in this wine like tilled soil, charcoal, mocha and more. I know you're thinking I don't want to drink something that tastes like soil, but I promise this flavor combination is amazing. According to Chad Hendrickson, an executive chef, the Earthy flavors actually enhance the fruit flavors in this wine especially with foods such as herb roasted chicken, grilled pork, caramelized onions, eggplant, sauteed greens, roasted potatoes or vegetables and aged Jack and Gouda cheese. Yum! Now I'm hungry.
The Allomi vineyard can be found in the rolling hills of northeastern Napa Valley. The long, warm growing season there paired with well-drained soil creates great conditions for ripening. The vineyard is 210 acres and is set-up in 35 unique growing blocks with six different Cabernet clones which add diversity of flavors and complexity to the wines. According to Dave Guffy, who is the director of winemaking, this Allomi Cabernet Sauvignon offers distinct notes of vanilla and oak spice with red fruit flavors set off by flavors of currant and blackberry with integrated tannins and a round, plush mouthfeel!
