From the "it's about time" Dept.: Spicy McNuggets are coming to McDonald's

Chicken McNuggets worked their way into the consciousness - and diets - of Americans in the early 1980s. The recipe was developed in 1979 and after a supply issue (due to popular demand), they became available nationally in 1983. I have to admit I find them delicious, even though the somewhat-cringey word "reconstituted" is involved in the chicken ingredients list.

While so many people love the taste of Chicken McNuggets - and I love them even without any of the sauces - one would never say they have a "kick" or spicy flavor of any kind, right? Well, that's about to change.

Foodbeast.com reports that McDonald's is going to release Spicy Chicken McNuggets to select markets September 16th. The nuggets will feature a spicier tempura-style batter with seasonings including chili and cayenne peppers, along with introducing a new "Mighty Hot Sauce" that will feature a blend of crushed red peppers, spicy cheeses (?!), and garlic that may have me even more excited to try than the nuggets themselves.

This comes on the heels of the chicken sandwich (and spicy chicken sandwich) wars back when 2020 started (admittedly, simpler times) and for McDonald's, which has seen sagging sales lately, this could be a winner. Watch for the Spicy Chicken McNuggets starting September 16th, "for a limited time only," as they say. That's, of course, to test 'em out and see if people actually respond and buy them.

I think they will. Especially after hearing about that new sauce.
