Some beaches up and down the Lake Michigan shore, including Bradford and South Shore in Milwaukee and North Beach in Racine, are closed or have cautions this weekend due to elevated bacteria levels. Some of the heavy rains this week along with other natural conditions, including more sunlight and warmer water temperatures than usual, are the culprits. Of course this has to happen on one of the hottest weekends of the year, right?
Well, there is a handy guide you can reference prior to hitting the beach - or backup beach - of your choice. WIBeaches.us is an interactive site with lists of beach conditions you can sort by name and county that will show you the latest status of beaches across the state, including up and down the coast of Lake Michigan. Check it out here or click on the interactive map below, where you can scroll around and get conditions, too.
Don't forget, Milwaukee has a mask ordinance in effect for any public indoor or outdoor place where you can't consistently stay socially distant. Shorewood does too (Atwater Beach is scheduled to be open this weekend, or at least was as I type this) and some other municipalities (or counties - like Dane) may follow suit. Stay safe and have a great weekend!
