"Toys R Us" reopens first store this weekend

Some toys "come back" after falling out of favor. In this case, a toy store is coming back.

Toys 'R' Us, which shut all of its nationwide locations in 2018, relaunched its website with games, action figures, and a large selection of toys in October; this weekend, they will be opening its first new retail location in Paramus, New Jersey. The Grand Opening will be Saturday morning, November 30th.

A second location will open the following Saturday, December 7th, in the Houston area.

Toys 'R' Us dates back to the 1940s originally and had hundreds of locations nationwide, including the location near Brookfield Square which closed in 2018. Its land has since been part of the huge redevelopment there.

The newer Toys 'R' Us stores will be smaller than previously, focusing on the latest, most popular toy products and brands.

Tru Kids is the parent company that owns the Toys 'R' Us brand and its CEO Richard Barry noted "With the return of Toys“R”Us stores in the U.S., we are bringing a highly engaging, experience-driven retail destination that celebrates play and deepens the connection between the world’s best toy, play and entertainment brands and customers."

So it will be about experiencing the offerings in addition to merely shopping for them, apparently. Toys 'R' Us officials referred to the two new locations "experimental."

Target beefed up its toy selection after Toys 'R' Us ceased operations in 2018, and now they have a partnership. If you order online from Toys 'R' Us, you'll have the same type of shopping experience as Target's website, and if you have a Target credit card you can buy on the Toys 'R' Us site.

What will happen with possible additional locations? Guess it depends on what happens with these two stores in New Jersey and Texas, but we'll keep you posted!
