Chevy Chase has had his ups (Saturday Night Live, Caddyshack, Fletch, Vacation, Three Amigos) and downs (Oh! Heavenly Dog, a reputation for being difficult, Caddyshack 2, getting roasted for real on Comedy Central) over his career, but his work on so many movies has become classic. Among them is as one of the quintessential dad characters in American film: the often well-meaning but occasionally crazy Clark W. Griswold in the series of Vacation movies. And now you'll get to see him like never before: live in Milwaukee.
Chevy will be hosting An Evening With Chevy Chase at Milwaukee's Riverside Theater on December 27th, which will be feature a screening of National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, followed by Chevy's perspective and recollections, and even ask questions. In my EricCast, I got to talk with him - as my call interrupts him at breakfast - about everything from the Vacation movies to being the first anchor on Saturday Night Live - including some of the groundbreaking things he got to do from "Weekend Update" to doing impressions of President Ford, a man who later became his friend. We discussed Caddyshack and Fletch, his favorite (and least favorite) of the Vacation movies, his favorite Christmas movies and what Jimmy Stewart said to him when he introduced himself (apparently, Mr. Stewart was unimpressed.)
I tried to verify what the "W." stood for in Clark W. Griswold. Chevy asked his wife. You'll have to listen to hear how that turned out.
