Check out Prairie du Chien on our "west coast" on Discover Wisconsin!

On this weekend's "Discover Wisconsin" episode, Mariah and I head to Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin's second oldest city. PDC is nestled in the hills of the Driftless Area along the banks of the Mississippi River, offering natural beauty, a lovely downtown, tons of recreation and access to Wyalusing State Park, plus history coming alive at Villa Louis.

In this Discover Wisconsin episode, I get to participate in a reenactment of the only battle of the War of 1812 fought in Wisconsin, which took place right at Fort Crawford IN Prairie du Chien. And boy, do the participants take it seriously! I also got to poach burgers - yes, poach, essentially - by cooking them in a unique style at Pete's Hamburgers, a stand that's been around in town since 1909. They grill their burgers like most do, but on this flat-top along with onions there are copious amounts of water in which the burgers are cooked, keeping them moist and giving them a unique but tasty flavor. They don't even offer cheese! We also get to explore history at Villa Louis, fish on the Mississippi River (I helped haul up 225 pounds of fish at 5:30am, to give you an idea of how glamorous this can be) and sample all kinds of fish and meats at Mike Valley (the "Sturgeon General's") place, Valley Fish right in town. Check out everything Mariah and I are up to in Prairie du Chien on your regularly-scheduled TV time, or via Roku, Google Home, Amazon Fire, Apple TV, or heck - even below right here on YouTube!
