Is there REALLY a fish fry shortage in Milwaukee?

There could be a fish fry shortage this winter, specifically with perch.

Perch, the traditional fish used for a fish fry all over the Milwaukee area, is in short supply.

According to WISN 12 Newsin Milwaukee, it's because of a couple reasons.

"Right now, what's happening is the top of the water where they fish is a little warmer than usual this time of season, so they're not hitting as hard as they usually would be," said JP Toske, executive chef for St Paul Fish Company in the Public Market. "They're really not even fishing (perch) because the (water) temperature is too high and also what's happening is the walleye are eating the smaller perch, so they aren't able to grow to their full size."

As a result, restaurants across Milwaukee are switching to other options for their fish fry's, like walleye and cod.
