Fall is officially coming to a close and the holiday season is in full swing, bringing with it thoughts of cheer, hopes for a White Christmas and plans to spend quality time with loved ones.

Some revelers, however, may be looking to get away for a restful winter vacation that still offers plenty of local shops to visit, exciting scenery to explore and fun cold-weather attractions to experience, from ski resorts with twisting slopes to cabins nestled along a snow-capped mountain.

According to a list compiled by Reader's Digest, the "best winter destination" in all of Wisconsin is Door County. This popular spot was praised for its delightful festivals, stunning nature and bountiful attractions that make it not just a great place to visit in winter but for summer vacations as well.

Here's what Reader's Digest had to say about the best winter destination in the entire state:

"This narrow peninsula sticking into Lake Michigan is known as a summer destination, with miles of shoreline and parks, cute villages, and fabulous views over the water — but 'the Cape Cod of the Midwest' is also a stunning spot to visit in winter. Door County's five state parks are all open for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling; it's also one of the top destinations in the country for ice fishing over the bays and inland lakes. For more cold weather fun, attend one of the many winer festivals and events on the peninsula, including the Fish Creek Festival, Fire and Ice Festival in Sturgeon Bay, and Door County Pond Hockey Tournament. Visitors shouldn't miss Door County famous sunsets, bathed in soft winter light."
