Fairgoers will be transported back 1985 when Retro Futura hits the Main Stage on Thursday, Aug. 3. Featuring an impressive lineup of 80s icons, this show will have New Wave fans on their feet. English singer-songwriter Howard Jones, known for “No One Is To Blame” and “Things Can Only Get Better,” will headline. The 80s legend toured in 2016 following intimate solo concerts in 2015, and has been a constant presence on the international touring scene for the past three decades. Jones will be joined by Men Without Hats, who will undoubtedly bring “The Safety Dance” to the fair. The charismatic group has made a return to pop music with their latest album, Love in the Age of War.
Modern English will melt fans’ hearts with their classic hits like “I Melt with You” and “Hands Across the Sea.” After disbanding in 1991 and later recording in 1995 with new members, the original band members rejoined in 2009 and have been together ever since. The English Beat, who toured with legends like The Police, The Clash and David Bowie in the 1980s will also perform. Formed in 1979, the band crossed between soul, reggae, pop and punk, creating a unique dance rhythm in their music. The group, known as simply The Beat in Europe, is best remembered for “Save It For Later” and “Mirror in the Bathroom.”
English singer-songwriter Paul Young will rock the stage with classics like “Love of the Common People” and “Come Back and Stay.” Young received the 1985 Brit Award for Best British Male and won Best British Video the following year for the hit “Everytime You Go Away.” Katrina (of Katrina and the Waves) will have fairgoers “Walking on Sunshine” when she joins the performance. After its 1985 release, the single was broadcast more than two million times in the U.S. and more recently was the highest played track on radio in the summer of 2008. With this international hit, Katrina made a name for herself and her band, quickly racking up a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and worldwide fame.
