Happy Birthday MTV

There was a period of about 10 years or so as a kid that my parents did not allow me to watch MTV...this the consequence of getting a call from my teacher informing my parents that rather than playing with the other kids, I was setting up the blocks like a stage and trying to recreate the Bon Jovi video for Livin' On A Prayer!

Needless to say, once I was allowed again to watch, it became a big part of my life...I really wanted to be the next Carson Daly and host TRL from Times Square and MTV Spring Break!

This past Sunday marked the 40th anniversary of the launch of MTV....and do you know the first video/song every played?? Fittingly, it was "Video Killed The Radio Star" by The Buggles!

Here are the first moments of MTV, August 1st 1981 and the first video!

Plus, the CEO of our company iHeartMedia, Bob Pittman, was one of the original founders of MTV and he sat down on his podcast Math & Magic, with several people who where there at the beginning to talk about the 40 years since its launch, check that out below!
