"The Price is Right" heads back into production with a redesigned set

The Price Is Right has been a beloved game show since 1972 and after being interrupted in March by pandemic-forced shutdowns, it's starting to head back into production. The redesigned set is deemed "COVID friendly" and will still have its usual rounds. However, for the first time, it will take place without the full audience in tow.

Evelyn Warfel, the new Executive Producer, said her team worked out the changes while following all of the local, state and guild guidelines. The result? Audience members will be brought back with social distancing. The Drew Carey-hosted show simply can't have a virtual audience; the staff pointed out it would be difficult to impossible to ensure people don't look online for the "actual retail price" of the items they'd try to bid on.

So while some of the audience will return, all 77 games will. They'll be played while maintaining social distancing - and they'll still say "Come On Down!" to audience members.

The show's 49th season was supposed to begin filming in mid-August, with new shows on by now. Due to the delay, they will start filming three episodes per day and changing one of the filming days to Sunday, when fewer other people would be on the production lot. New shows should be on by November, if not earlier.
