After pressure from fans and sponsors alike, the Washington Redskins announced a week or so ago that they would retire the controversial "Redskins" team name. At the time of that announcement, they said the new name would be revealed soon.
Well, it looks like we got it...wait for it...the Washington Football Team. Yep, at least for this coming season, they'll be known simply as Football team. CNN reports that the team is going to take time to work on a new permanent name, quoting the team's statement, "The decision to use 'Washington Football Team' for this season allows the franchise the ability to undertake an in-depth branding process to properly include player, alumni, fan, community, and sponsor input".
Oh, and the NHL team in Seattle will be called the Seattle Kraken...so I've got to go figure out what a Kraken is.
