Roller coasters are SO much fun, right??
They've been getting more and more daring over the years, and a new roller coaster set to debut next spring will definitely get the adrenaline rushing and leave your stomach in a different place.
Kings Island, an amusement park in Ohio near Cincinnati (they filmed a Brady Bunch episode there once) will unveil its latest ride this spring: it's a roller coaster called Orion, and it will feature a 300-foot drop. For comparison purposes, 300 feet is about 15 feet higher than the top of the Wisconsin State Capitol and about halfway up the U.S. Bank Tower, the tallest building in Milwaukee.
Such height qualifies this as a “giga” roller coaster; it will be just one of seven worldwide with a drop between 300 and 399 feet, according to Kings Island.
After that initial 300-foot drop, the coaster will take riders over seven more hills, hitting speeds of 91 miles per hour, and cover more than a mile of track. The ride will last about three minutes.
Kings Island lays claim to being the largest amusement and water park in the Midwest; it's also home to the longest wooden roller coaster in the world, The Beast. It's a big park with a lot of coasters, similar to Cedar Point in northern Ohio or our own Six Flags Great America just south of the border.
But we just may ride this next year - after a few drinks!
