The Milwaukee Department of Public Works is currently researching a plan to stop covering their roads with plain rock salt in the winter.  "What would they use instead" you ask?  Cheese brine...the left over waste in the cheese making process.  It's supposedly cheaper and better for the roads than just rock salt.  The only caveat is the smell.  Cheese brine has a distinct odor not unlike a mix of rotton cheese and smelly feet.
